The Gospel’s True Call
June 16, 2014
The Gospel is the Good News. It is the good and wonderful news that God came to earth in a human body to take upon Himself His own wrath against sin. It is the Proclamation that in so doing, God (Jesus) made atonement for each and every person who would, by faith, step out of the darkness and into the Light. (John 1:4-9 & 5:24 // 1 John 2:2) It is the Message that once in the Light, a person will, if he abides in true faith, continue to walk in the Light. (1 John 1:5-7) There he will not only have sweet communion with God and with other believers (same verses), but will have Christ’s blood (spiritually) flowing through him, purifying him from all sin. (v.7) This purity is what we are ordained and called to train ourselves in (1 Tim. 4:7 // 2 Tim. 3:16 // Titus 2:11-14) and to come to possess. (Rom. 8:29 // Eph. 5:3 // 1 Thes. 4:7 // 2 Tim. 1:9)
How do believers in Christ Jesus become those pure vessels whom God can use (2 Tim. 2:19-21) because they live holy, godly, spotless lives as they ought? (2 Peter 3:11,14) It happens by being purified by the Word (John 15:3 & 17:17), and this comes about by abiding in that Word –which means to be allowing it to wash through one’s spirit on a continual basis and as one puts it into constant practice. (Mt. 7:24-27 // John 6:53-63)
The call of the Gospel is not to a belief system about God, but is instead a call to the Person of Christ and “to the obedience that comes from faith.” (Rom. 1:5) This obedience is a minute-by-minute and hand-in-hand walk with the Spirit (Gal. 5:16,25), being submissive to His every instruction (Rom. 8:9) which is always in accordance with the Truth (1 John 2:20-27) –the Truth being that which Jesus taught (John 14:15-26 // 2 John 1:9-11) and the whole of Scripture. (John 17:17 // 2 Peter 3:15,16 // 3 John 1:3 // Jude 1:3)
The Gospel is a call to learn obedience to Christ’s commands. (Mt. 28:20) The Gospel is the proclamation that the Eternal God has commanded that all nations believe the Message, repent, turn to God, and obey Him with whole-hearted allegiance. (Luke 14:33 // Acts 26:20 // Rom. 16:25-27) The Gospel is the wonderful declaration that mankind has been set free from the power of the evil realm (Col. 1:13,14) and can, through faith, walk victorious in the power of the Spirit. (1 Cor. 4:20 // Eph. 1:19 // 1 John 5:4)
Let no one twist the call of the Gospel. And if anyone does, may the rest of us call that man to account for his lie.
