A Mighty Storm Is Rising

March 8, 2014

“Look! …A mighty storm is rising.” (Jer. 25:32) It is the Lord, coming with furious rebuke, with fire, and with chariots like a whirlwind. (Isa. 66:15) Many will be slain by the Lord. (v. 16) Their bodies will lay like refuse from one end of the earth to the other. (Jer. 25:33) The havoc will reverberate around the globe (v. 31) for the Lord is bringing charges against the wicked of all nations. (same verse)

“Because the wicked have not listened to My words, though I appointed watchmen over them and said, ‘Listen to My warnings!'” (see Jer. 6:17-19), “I am bringing on all of them the fruit of their schemes, even horrible disaster.” (See v. 19 & 25:31 and Isa. 66:16)

“Therefore weep and wail, you unfaithful shepherds of the flock,” (see Jer. 25:34) “for your time to be slaughtered has come.” (same verse) Indeed, those who, for a show and out of their pride, pretend to have counsel to give from the Lord, not only dress people’s wounds as if the wounds were not serious (6:13,14), but command the rest of us to do the same. As a result, the people are not healed, they do not repent, and they incur, like their teachers, the fierce anger of the Holy, Almighty God. (25:37,38 // Ho. 5:13,14)

“You will have peace,” the false messengers say. (Jer. 6:14) “Even if you (and I) are following the stubbornness of our hearts, no harm will come to us.” (See 23:17) Not knowing how to blush concerning their loathsome conduct (6:15), these seducers continue to unashamedly promise freedom to their hearers while their own tongues remain slavishly licking the vomit. (2 Peter 2:17-22)

“But I had a dream,” they say. (Jer. 23:25) Or, “I have a word for you,” they say. But these “spiritual mentors” speak from “the delusions of their own minds.” (v. 26) Their speeches are only chatter, reckless lies, and poison –dead words of their own, or worse, words that are fueled by their father, the devil. (Isa. 8:19 // John 8:44 // 1 John 3:8) Therefore, their oracles, far from being of the Lord (Jer. 23:32), benefit the souls of no one. (same verse) Refusing to listen to God’s counsel or speak according to His Word (Isa. 8:20), these “authorities” have no Light (same verse) and so cannot, and do not, turn people from their sin, from their falsehood, and from their impending doom. (v. 21,22 // Jer. 23:16-22 // Mal. 2:7-9)

But, “‘Is not My word like fire,’ declares the LORD, ‘and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?'” (Jer. 23:29) Therefore, “‘Let the one who has My Word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?’ declares the LORD.” (v. 28) Yes, truly, the words of the false messengers should be of no influence upon God’s true ambassadors, for what has “the words of Spirit and Life” (see John 6:63) to do with the words coming from those walking in death?

Look! Because of the false hopes being given out by those speaking from their own minds and not from the mouth of the Lord (Jer. 23:16), “the storm of the LORD will burst out in wrath, a whirlwind swirling down on the heads of the wicked.” (v. 19)

with love,
