Two Roads Only: Sinful Or Spirit

January 6, 2014

A person is either following (and walking in) Christ, or he is following (and walking in) the flesh, which is also called the natural man or the sinful nature. The two roads are in complete opposition to one another (Gal. 5:17) and there is no other sphere or path but the two. The narrow road is Jesus which is the path of righteousness and holiness, and all the other paths fall into one: The broad road that leads to eternal death. (Mt. 7:13,14 // Rom. 6:16-23) The narrow road, the one of Truth and Life (John 14:6), is the path of continual submission to the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9,14), while the broad road, the one of Falsehood and Death, is friendship with the world and with sin, and is consequently the road of enmity with God. (v. 5-8,13 // Ja. 4:4)

How does a person walk the road which is Christ? He does it by repenting of sin (Luke 13:3), separating himself from all uncleanness (2 Cor. 6:14-18), believing and adhering to Christ’s words (John 8:31), and by knowing Christ increasingly. (v. 32 // 2 Peter 1:1-8) This ever-increasing knowledge comes through ever-increasing faith, which comes by hearing, and continuing to hear, eat, and put into practice the Word of Christ. (Luke 8:21 // John 6:53-63 // Rom. 10:17 // 2 Peter 1:3-8) By doing this, a person sows to please the Spirit who brings Life. (Gal. 6:8) There is no other way to please God, to have our condemned situation pardoned and voided, and to thus live with the Lord forever. (Rom. 6:22,23 & 8:1-4,14 // Gal. 5:18) Let no one be deceived: Those who indulge in the acts of the sinful nature will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (Gal. 5:19-21)

The Truth states: “No immoral, impure or greedy person –such a man is an idolater– has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God.” (Eph. 5:5) This is because all who are disobedient –and there is no favoritism for those who claim to know God yet deny Him by their actions (Col. 3:25 // Titus 1:16)– have heaped back upon themselves God’s wrath. (Eph. 5:6 // Heb. 10:26-31) In fact, by becoming entangled in the pollutants of the world again, a person’s eternal condition is left worse than ever. (2 Peter 2:20-22)

God’s Word repeatedly warns: God will destroy all those who walk in the sinful nature, rather than in the Spirit. (Rom. 8:13,14 // Gal. 5:16-25 & 6:8 // 2 Peter 2:9,10 // Jude 1:17-19) For partaking of the sinful nature brings in defilement, and all who defile God’s temple will be destroyed. (1 Cor. 3:16,17) Therefore, what a person claims, even if he claims to love, follow, and serve Christ (Mt. 7:21-23 // Mark 7:6-8), or even if he claims to know Him personally (Luke 13:22-28 // 1 John 2:,3,4), is not the defining issue. (2 Peter 2:1-19 // Jude 1:4) What matters is that a person has genuine (overcoming) faith in Christ’s Message (Mt. 24:10-13), is continuously adding to his faith goodness and the knowledge of God, as well as those other qualities brought about through the Spirit (Gal. 5:22,23 // 2 Peter 1:5-8), and that that person is obeying God’s commands (Mt. 19:17 // 1 John 2:3,4 & 3:24) and will (Mt. 7:21 & 12:50 // 1 John 2:17) by being in continual submission to the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9,14), the proof being pure, righteous, Christ-like conduct. (John 5:29 // Acts 26:20 // 1 Peter 1:14-16 // 1 John 2:6)

Such is the person who knows Christ. Such is the person who is walking the narrow road. Such is the person who is saved.

with love,
