How To Live In God’s Blessing

November 6, 2013

Friends,
Who is the blessed person? It is he who does not live according to the ways of the world, but instead meditates on God’s Word day and night so that he might know how to live according to God’s requirements. (Jos. 1:8 // Ps. 1:1-3) God’s Word is clear about this. Yet surprisingly, many who claim they follow Christ and His teachings do not take any (or much) time in His instruction Book. Many who say that Jesus is their Lord (Leader / Master / Boss / King) and Savior, do not actually know what His Spirit, who uses the Word to speak through –by reminding us of what Jesus taught (John 14:26 & 16:14,15)– is telling them. They either cannot hear, or if by chance they do, they do not obey, nor do they even know how to take the first step of obedience.

The first step of obedience (initially and daily) is to go to God’s Word, open it up, thank God for His Word, for Jesus, for His atoning sacrifice, and for the forgiveness that comes through Him. By doing this, a person should be stepping into the power of the Holy Spirit by which he is able to humble himself enough to confess any sins of contempt, treason, disobedience, disrespect, and scorn toward God and His holy Law. Through the Spirit’s grace, that person will be given the faith, the ability, and the will to weep over his sins, to genuinely ask for forgiveness, to renounce his offenses done against God and others, to slay Self by uniting with Christ’s death, to step (initially or once again) into the new life by wedding himself to Christ, and to begin walking in this pledge, this agreement, this covenant, with God. This walk is to be done from a heart that is whole-heartedly and faithfully committed to Christ and His Spirit’s control, and this is possible through, and only through, meditating on God’s Word regularly. This, therefore, is how a person lives in the blessing that comes from God.

Sincerely,
with love,
Rachel
