Understand The True Gospel

October 23, 2013

Friends,
When we proclaim the Gospel, we must, ourselves, realize that it is a Message that commands all people everywhere to repent, believe the Good News, and pledge allegiance to Christ Jesus and His teachings by submitting, through faith, to being baptized by the Spirit into Christ’s death and resurrection. (Mark 1:4,15,17 // John 3:3-8,14 & 8:31,32 // Acts 2:38 & 17:30 // Rom. 6:4) Those who do this, God’s Word tells us, will have their sins forgiven and washed away in order that they might walk in the power of the new life / eternal life. (same verses // John 1:29 // Acts 1:5,8 // Rom. ch. 6 // 2 Cor. 5:17) This Life is not about rules, but about a continuous submission to the rule and will of the Lord. (Rom. 7:6 & 8:4 // 1 Peter 4:2)

This continuous submission to the rule and will of the Lord is accomplished as we deny Self daily, pick up our cross daily, and obediently follow Jesus’ every command daily (Luke 9:23 // 1 John 3:24), all as He instructs us through His Spirit and Word. (John 6:63) If we do not do these, we are rebels against the Lord (Rom. 8:6-8), are not His children (1 John 3:10), and are not saved from eternal banishment from His presence. (2 Thes. 1:9-10)

The apostle Paul made it very plain what the Gospel’s proclamation is to be. He said, “I preached that they [everyone] should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” (Acts 26:20) This is the Gospel we too are to preach: That repentance means a turn about, a switch, a change, a reversal, a full and complete alteration, a renunciation and rejection of sin, that it is a choosing to pledge one’s absolute loyalty to God, His ways, and His commands, and that it is a life of conduct that proves this transformation is genuine.

This is why Ja. 2:17 says that “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” For action completes true saving faith (v. 22); and so we “see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.” (v. 24) Faith alone –faith without righteous actions, words, and thoughts– is a type of faith that is mere belief in who Jesus is.  This faith is that which even the demons have, but are not saved (v. 19), and that which, sadly, many people have who are expecting to get into Heaven (Mt. 7:21-23 & 25:1-13 // Luke 13:23-28) but who will be turned away forever. (same verses)

Why are people not believing and teaching the true Gospel? Because they don’t want to understand the Truth. The Truth tells them hard things, things that greatly cramp their feelings of safety and contentment in doing as they please. Rather than submitting to the Lord of the universe, they would rather continue in their sin, deny that they are in danger, and take their foolish chances.

But, for the few of us who do believe the true Gospel, we will continue to proclaim it boldly in the hopes that more people may repent, believe, and be saved.

Sincerely,
with love,
Rachel
