Who Really Is Being Self-righteous?
September 13, 2013
Israeliteindeed has written an exceptional post this week that can be read here: http://israeliteindeed.wordpress.com/2013/09/12/what-is-self-righteousness/
The post clarifies for us what self-righteousness really is –that it is when a person thinks that their way, apart from the Way God reveals in His Word, is the way of salvation. It is when people claim safety in their beliefs that are not in line with the doctrines of Christ. What a much needed message in this day when so many “Christians” think and teach that their doctrine of “Saved-to-Sin-Safely” is the Truth! What a breath of fresh air amid the foul excuses we keep hearing from those who try to rationalize why they sin and explain their doctrinal refuge for doing so.
Furthermore, does anyone else notice how so many “Christians” keep trying to deviate from the main issue of the necessity to quit their sin, doing so by chattering on and on about what is or is not sin? Shouldn’t they, instead of gathering about them others who will make them feel fine in their sin-slavery, run to the Word of God and find out what it truly says there? God’s Word alone is our Lamp, our Guide, our Wisdom, and our Strength unto holiness.
A few days ago a church-goer said to me, “Well, we’re all sinners.” I kept quiet this time because I just didn’t want to get into it with her and because I know this is what almost all church-goers are taught –and taught like a drill. But no, if we are in Christ, then we are not sinners but saints, and saints have renounced sin, and thus refrain from sinning. As Israeliteindeed says, anyone who teaches or believes differently is the one being self-righteous, and is the one walking the road to damnation.
