In The Fountain, The Healer, Is Rest

July 8, 2013

Friends,
Who lives in the chaos of the evil realm? Who walks in the darkness of sorrow? Who has burdens too heavy to bear? Who has fallen one time too many so that this time he feels too hopeless to get back up? There is a Healer. There is a Savior. He is Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords. In Him is complete victory. In Him is rest. Rest from all of it.

“Come to Me,” Jesus says. “Come to Me, the Fountain of Life, and you will find rest for your souls.” (See Matt. 11:28-30 and John 4:13,14) Yes, for in Christ our sins are washed away and we are refreshed. (Acts 3:19) He promises to “refresh the weary and satisfy the faint” (Jer. 31:25) –if they cry out to Him for help, if they do so in deep contrition, if they wait for Him in trust and patience. (Isa. 30:15 & 40:29-31)

Why are so many worried? Why do they fret and hurry here and there, trying so hard? They strive and sweat and trample each other in their quests. For what? What does it gain for them? The whole world? But at what price? That of their eternal soul. (Mark 8:34-37)

Yet Jesus gives His “obedient followers, His friends” (see John 15:14), what the world can’t give. He gives peace, His own peace. (14:27) He envelops us with His love (15:10), and it is more than enough. His joy is our strength (Neh. 8:10) and though we, by ourselves, are weak, His power flowing through us (2 Cor. 12:9,10) is what we use to leap over walls, bend a bow of bronze, and do exploits in His name. (Ps. 18:29,34 // Dan. 11:32 // Matt. 28:18-20)

And yes, the Lord gives contentment, blessed joy, amid all of life’s trials and pain. This is because we abide in the supernatural Fountain. The Fountain who is the Healer. (Ps. 30:2) The Fountain who is the Life, the Way, the Truth. (John 14:6) It is because we eat His words and they are for us the joy of our hearts, the instruction we obey, and the nourishment that blossoms wisdom, enlightenment, righteousness, and friendship with Christ.

“Why do you worry about your life, the details, and each day, O you of little faith? –You who are more precious to your heavenly Father than the sparrows He feeds?” (See Matt. 6:25-34) “Do not fear. I, your Redeemer, your God, will help you Myself.” (See Isa. 41:13,14) “Are you not My inheritance [see Dt. 32:9], the apple of My eye who I’ve carried and guarded and watched over since I formed you? [see v. 10] Yes, you are Mine [Isa. 43:1], for ‘You My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, are people, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign LORD.'” (Ezek. 34:31)

How tender is the heart of God toward those who love Him. For truly, “He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart.” (Isa. 40:11) Being carried by this Father, the One whose everlasting arms never grow weary (v. 28 // Dt. 33:27), is complete security, heavenly peace, and total rest. We can remain there. If we believe.

Sincerely,
with love,
Rachel
