Dwelling In Delight In God

August 19, 2012

Friends,
If we truly belong to Christ, then we are walking with Him and in Him. We are abiding in the Vine and in His love. (John 15:1-10) This means we house Him and He houses us. We live in Him and He lives in us.

What kind of home is this? It is a home of peace, of rest, of security, and of love, as well as that of knowledge, wisdom, and power to live righteously. It is a home too wonderful to adequately describe. It is a home of loving friendship with the God of Creation, a place where we are cared for by Him. It is true life.

Within this home is a river –a river of delights. (Ps. 36:8) The river flows from the Fountain (v. 9), and we drink from its Living Water. (John 7:38) As we drink, we are filled up with the One who produces the Life, for He is also the Water itself. (v. 39) Our hearts and minds are kept purified by this Water (Eph. 5:26 // Heb. 10:22 // 1 John 5:6-8) and He permeates our spirit so that we have His own divine nature we can continually choose to function from. (Gal. 2:20 // 2 Peter 1:3,4 // 1 John 3:9)

How blessed are all we who have been chosen by God to live in His Presence! (Ps. 65:4) We are indeed filled with the good things of His dwelling place, His holy temple (same verse) –which we, our born anew bodies, are! (1 Cor. 6:19,20) All are invited to come, to bow, to repent, to partake. (John 3:16 & 6:40 & 7:38) Yes, “Whosoever is thirsty, let him come; and whosoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.” (Rev. 22:17) God knocks at every heart, and if anyone chooses to open their door to receive the washing, the Lord will come in and live there. (John 12:32 // Rev. 3:20) He chooses the repentant and the obedient, washes them, and takes up residence there, transforming a filthy dark haunt of a soul into a glorious tabernacle of beauty filled with the Light of Life. (Ps. 36:9 // John 1:4 & 8:12)

Is this invitation and privilege anything to take lightly? –Anything to ignore or shrug off as something unimportant or casual? It’s not! To house the Spirit of the Almighty God is an unfathomable privilege! To dwell within Him and for Him to dwell within us is unconscionable except in view of His grace! Can anyone escape severe judgement should they live a life rejecting this honorable summons? No, they will not escape. (John 3:36 // Heb. 2:1-3)

But for those who recognize the honor of this, our desire for anything else pales compared to our desire to abide with Him. (Ps. 73:25) “Therefore our utmost request, our fervent search, our continual prayer, is that we may dwell in the presence of the Lord every moment of our lives so that we may gaze upon His beauty and continue to seek to know Him ever more intimately.” (See Ps. 27:4,8)

Oh, what a beautiful dwelling place is our God!

Sincerely,
with love,
Rachel
